About this audiobook

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Quinn Colson series comes a fast, funny, violent noir novel based on the crimes of George “Machine Gun” Kelly.

In July 1933, a gangster staged the kidnapping-for-ransom of an Oklahoma oilman.

He would live to regret it. What started clean soon turns messy as two of “Machine Gun” Kelly’s partners cut themselves into the action, a determined former Texas Ranger makes tracking Kelly his mission, and his wife, ever alert to her own self-interest, starts playing both sides …

Set in the first days of the modern FBI, Infamous is a passionate blend of historical novel and crime story featuring an unexpected hero, some of the most colorful supporting characters in recent crime fiction, and unforgettable femme fatale Kathryn Kelly—the Lady Macbeth of Depression-era crime.

"Bullets fly, gore puddles and, as the denouement approaches, oh how those pages turn. Atkins, who loves his characters colorful, makes readers love them too, and it doesn’t much matter whether they’re naughty or nice."—Kirkus Reviews

This historical Romance is set in King Edward I time in England and is the second book in the series (I never listened to or read the first book). I thought it had a good plot and wonderful characters.(Guy de Beauchamp, the Earl of Warwick, was an actual historical figure) . Headstrong lady-in-waiting to the Princess, Marjory de Warenne has the looks of an angel. But she's given her heart to the devil: the notorious Guy de Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, a man feared on the battlefield-and in matters of seduction. When her guardians choose a more appropriate husband for her, Jory can only dream of her gallant knight, the Earl of Warick, until their passion are rekindled when history overtakes them both. I certainly enjoyed this Audiobook and would like to listen to other works by Virginia Henley. Jack Murphy

As Infamous opens, Jory (Marjory) has decided, on the advice of her promiscuous friend Joanna Plantagenet, to take her first lover before her brother and uncle arrange a marriage for her. The target of her decision is the infamous Guy deBeauchamp, who's already buried two wives under mysterious circumstances. They fall in love, and plan to marry, but Jory's brother and uncle turn down Guy's offer, unbeknownst to Jory, believing they're acting in her best interests. The book follows Jory through an affectionate, if not passionate, marriage, widowhood, and her eventual reunion with Guy.Infamous is very reminiscent of the Bertrice Small historical romances I've read, in that it contains liberal references to actual historical figures (at one point, Jory has an affair with Robert the Bruce), is full of sensuality, and is a sweeping story encompassing many years and more than one relationship for the heroine.Unfortunately, it's also written in a rather distant style. I'm not sure if it's omniscient or 3rd-person limited with headhopping, but it kept me from really caring about the characters. It felt very much as if I were listening to someone telling me about a book they'd read, and while I found it interesting, even fascinating in parts, I never became involved in the story.
