- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An excellent starting point if you're just starting to think about retirement, and the sooner the better too. A well-organized and thoughtful guide with lots of info not only for beginners, but for anyone with existing retirement plans to go back and review those plans again. A great gift idea for any age. I wish someone would have given me this book while I was in my 20s!Net Galley Feedback
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As with all the Clyde Bank Media guides, this retirement planning guide is crammed full of useful information, if you are young and have no ide, if you are mid aged and want to insure you are on the right path, or if you have retired and want to take better control of your retirement. One of the underlining threads in this guide is not just finances, but how to retire so that you maximize your enjoyment of the new lifestyle. I would recommend it to any age, as it will take you from where you are to where you could be, given you take the advice and put it into practice.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fairly comprehensive book regarding retirement planning. The author has significant experience and knowledge. He provides good advice and keeps things at a simple level. I learned a few things and refreshed my memory on others. The author interweaves his opinions on his religion and past health issues. I think it would have been better if he stuck on topic.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this book with interest: I am a couple of decades into my working life, and I haven't revisited the original training we got about retirement planning in some time. This book covers more topics, in greater breadth, than I expected when I saw its title was a "QuickStart."Many chapters end with an urge the reader to consult a professional for assistance that will be suited to their circumstances -- but they'll do so armed with a reasonable grounding in the vocabulary and principles of the topic.I was impressed that the book went beyond just financial issues, and discussed health care costs (Medicare & Medicaid), long-term planning the emotional issues of being retired, and more. The book is good reading both for young people who need to know how to invest their money for the future, as well as older folks who are nearing or starting their retirement years. Very good stuff!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5NOTE: I won a free eBook copy of this book in MOBI format from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers (July 2021).This book is a comprehensive guide to retirement and is written with the needs of early-, mid-, and late-career individuals in mind. Though I have been in the workforce for a while (including a stint as an HR aide), I found a lot of new and enlightening information in this guide. Snow is clearly a financial expert and his explanations of financial options, such as ETF's and annuities, were very informative. I am now convinced of the importance of AD&D insurance and will be exploring options for this when annual enrollment comes around. All this said, the book is not perfect. I found myself wanting to see some templates for some of the financial planning tools, such as budgets and wills. Snow opens his book with an introduction that includes a discussion of how his faith has informed his professional work; while a brave and laudable admission, it did color my perception of the author and the background from which he comes. As a result, some of his advice might not necessarily be tailored for women and minority individuals. Readers would be wise to seek more detailed financial advice from additional sources, such as the CFP's that Snow endorses.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an absolutely solid little book on retirement planning. I am nowhere near an expert on the material covered here, but I know enough to respect how well done it is. I learned something useful many times, as Snow does a brief, but comprehensive survey of all the major elements of retirement planning in the United States, from IRAs to living trusts.Since it is brief, there are many things that could be usefully covered in more detail. Snow gives suggestions for books that can provide more detail, but I'm sure the reader can also find more information independently since what is here is so good.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this Kindle book from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. I found this book to be extremely beneficial and informative, especially for 24 year old me who only has a small grasp on how to prepare for retirement and what retirement itself entails. This book spans numerous topics, like investments, insurance, estates, long term planning, preparing for hiccups, and making the most of retirement. For a QuickStart Guide, it was lengthy but jam packed with great content. I do like that the author mentioned his faith as being an important factor in his own financial planning and life, but I could see how some readers may be turned off by that. This is a book I will reread occasionally to make sure I'm on track for a financially independent and fulfilling retirement. **About the Kindle edition itself, it did not show page numbers, and several pages had the top line missing so I had to guess at what was skipped over.
