From 2000 to 2002, he led the city's Historic District Task Force, helping to establish a special zone in the downtown area to focus tourism and celebrate the city's well-preserved architecture. He was previously the planning director for Beaufort, South Carolina, and a tour guide for Boston-by-Foot. Michael holds a Bachelors degree from Tufts and a Masters from Boston University. He was named New Hampshire's City Planner of the Year in 2009.view less
