He served as house surgeon at the Soho Square Hospital for Women and the Manchester Hospital for Children at Pendlebury, was resident medical officer at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, and edited the Clinical Reports 1905-08. He then settled in practice in Cheltenham and became obstetric surgeon to the Victoria Home and medical officer to Cheltenham Ladies College. He was an examiner for the Central Midwives Board.
During the WWI he served in Egypt and France, with the rank of Captain RAMC. He returned to Cheltenham, before moving in 1925 to become resident medical officer at Lancing College, Shoreham, Sussex. In 1927 he moved into practice in the neighbouring town of Worthing.
A brilliant and accomplished model engineer, Longridge constructed a model of the SS Meriones, which was exhibited at the Model Engineer Exhibition and won the Admiral Cup. In 1930 he designed and built a model of the steam yacht Aida. His model of the Cutty Sark won a Championship Cup and was exhibited at the Science Museum, as was his model of the Victory.
