Drawn to how words made the heart listen, she began writing poetry after reading poems from Lucille Clifton, Langston Hughes, Edgar Allan Poe, and Maya Angelou. But it wasn't until she read her first novel by Eric Jerome Dickey that she fell in love with the art of storytelling.
