She served on a secret Drug Interdiction Mission and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal in 1991. Despite receiving this achievement, her medal came in the mail after 22 years. "Someone told me that I was courageous for writing this book. I didn't write this book because I'm courageous. I wrote it out of fear. Fear of not being the best mom I can be.
