    Ryan Joseph Braun was born on November 17, 1983, in Mission Hills, California. He is a standout right-handed left fielder for Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers. He was ranked number seven by the Sporting News in its 2012 list of the 50 greatest current players in baseball. He also won the National League MVP in 2011. While his accomplishments on the field are impressive, his actions off the field draw the attention of many non-baseball fans.     Personal Life

    Ryan Braun's religious background is often a subject of conversation. Braun was born in Mission Hills, Los Angeles. He grew up in a very close family that included a mix of religions. His mother, Diane, is Catholic, but his father, Joe, is Jewish. Despite the mixed parents, Ryan considers himself Jewish. On this topic, in a 2007 interview, he said:

    It's a touchy subject because I don't want to offend anybody, and I don't want groups claiming me now because I'm having success. But I do consider myself definitely Jewish. And I'm extremely proud to be a role model for young Jewish kids. It's something that draws a lot of interest and something I take pride in, but I don't want to make it into something more than what it is. I didn't have a Bar Mitzvah. I don't want to pretend that I did. I didn't celebrate the holidays.
