The Ransomes had been burgled. "Robbed," Mrs. Ransome said. "Burgled," Mr. Ransome corrected. Premises were burgled; persons were robbed. Alan Bennett has been one of our leading dramatists since the success of Beyond the Fringe in the 1960s.
