Introduction

Back around early 2009, I was writing articles for an online magazine. When I applied for the job, they asked me to pitch to them what made me tick. Whatever I said, they knighted me the 'Underground Travel' reporter. I don't know if they wanted me to report about things below street level or if they perceived me as the fringe living Bohemian that I am.

I just wrote whatever I wanted to write about and nobody got hurt. To their credit, they were very nice to me. Since we were all being paid per view, they were very helpful to everybody in regards to getting more clicks via all kinds of cross-links that I honestly didn't have the patience to pursue.

After making pennies a week for several months, I sent them a very nice letter of resignation, thanking them for the chance to stretch creative muscles on such a regular basis. I was a busy guy. I had places to go, people to meet and all kinds of horror movies in which to chew up the scenery.

Shortly after that, I received a (bulk) email announcing that my department had a new editor. I don't think they told her that I quit. To this day, I am still getting emails from them about upcoming web conferences and updates to the publishing tool. It's like being at a séance. Oh well, here's some of my favorite pieces from that time.
