About this ebook

Uniquely, the book by Huguenot minister, Dr Jacques Abbadie, on Apologetics evokes worship from the reader's heart, so is not an exercise in intellectual dryness. It is inspiring, and grips your heart, is full of sound intellectual content, and will be returned to time and time again. Dr Lynch's paper captures that ethos, and provides a clear window into Abbadie's thinking on this crucial subject.

A Vindication of the Truth... Jacques Abbadie

A paper delivered by Dr J. E. Hazlett Lynch at the Amyraldian Association Conference at Attleborough, Norfolk, England, in March 2008.

    Introductory Remarks

Preparing this particular paper has been challenging to me. The sheer amount of very closely argued material was almost overpowering, its range exasperating, its insights enlightening, and its depth almost overwhelming. The 528 pages of the edition that I have meant an enormous amount of reading and study, of reflection and consideration. Quite apart from the fact that I could not do justice to it, it was difficult to discover a form of architecture around which to deal with this crucially important subject.

The subject matter of the book concerns the vindication of the Christian religion against the objections of all opposers – atheists, deists, and sceptics; in short, the author wanted to erect a strong bulwark against those who believe that they are wiser than the God of Scripture, and, at the same time, to point them to a better way.

I also looked for a means of presentation that would ensure that I would hold your attention throughout, enlighten your minds, warm your hearts and challenge your wills to a life of obedient service to Christ as you live under His Lordship as revealed in the Gospel.

Yes, this has been a challenging project for me, but I’ll say this: it was one of the most satisfying studies that I’ve done for some time. Studying this seminal work will do something to you: it will put iron into your soul and make you very willing to take on those cynics who try, by their cleverness, to shake the foundations of our most precious faith.

This is a book on Apologetics. Most other books on this subject are exercises in intellectual dryness, are uninspiring, do not grip you, and are certainly not evocative. Put simply, they leave you cold! And, undoubtedly, they fail to evoke worship from the heart of the reader. Such books are read
