Five O' Clock High: The Rumors Spread
()
About this ebook
A satirical romp through an office building, where everyone wants to fuck everyone else, and everyone below tries to kiss ass and grab favors, and all and sundry try to undermine those around them.
Follow one day as rumors spread about Jim, lowly office drone, as he tries to prep for a client meeting and please his girlfriend and his bosses all while a hippie stoner tries to fight him. Can he make it through the day? Or will he succumb to the female charms of the director of Human Resources? Or fall to the fists of a man with a perceived grudge?
(Note: Although a satirical look at possible sexual antics within the closed society of an office building, this work is based on humor and there is very little actual sex within)

*Office buildings are by their innate nature a strange and contumacious artifact indeed. They are, at their core, closed societies populated by beings who may join the world at large on a regular basis, but also spend 8, 12, or even 36 hours or more at a time, inside the structure of a thick skinned semi-sentient ever evolving beast which has its roots hidden far and away from polite society.
This is why middle-class housewives can sometimes be confused by the behavior of belligerent security guards who thought they may have not quite paid for everything in their shopping cart. Or you might quickly become lost amid the odd behavior patterns of a checkout stand in the middle of a four mile long BIGBOXSTOREASOURES. (We shall not discuss here, the 'off' behavior of the Society of National Mail Carriers or the building which they inhabit, which is covered extensively in a later chapter).
Each individual living structure, whether it is a Mall, a Government Building, a Tower High-Rise, a Multiplex with offices and living units, or the dreaded Post Office (an even deadlier form of the Government Building) evolves its own internal structure of mores and ethics - etiquette - and ways in which Things Should Be Done, which are often quite strange and incomprehensible when encountered by the outside viewer; even though they may come to be considered perfectly natural, even sensible and needed, by the inhabitants of these insular dens.

In a small cramped office deep inside the heart of a very tall, very stone, very nondescript office building, an older longhaired hippie called Kurtzman typed away furiously on his ten year old Mac, hunched over the keyboard like a gnome toiling for treasure deep inside a mineshaft. He wore casual clothes despite the office dress code, no one had fired him yet, and at fifty three he tended to zone out when they complained at him. Both probably had something to do with the fact he was the only one in the office who actually understood the intricacies of the overseas portion of his Job Description.
He was deeply absorbed and didn't even notice when his door opened and a face peeked in, despite all his years in Vietnam and later, the Storm.
Jim's face was haggard, his eyes blood shot, and a three day growth of stubble graced his chin and cheeks. Actually two days and about ten hours, but who was counting by
