Animal Tales: New Fables and Myths of Superpowers
By Amy Rudberg
()
About this ebook
The stories in Animal Tales present the individual personality, characteristics, and dignity of different animals with superpowers. The 26 short stories are arranged alphabetically by power from A-Z (from Alien Mind Power to Zap Power). Each story portrays a different animal, either born with a power or given a power, which usually gains some insight or learns a valuable life lesson. A moral is provided at the end of each story to help the reader think about the lesson the animal has learned. Based on fables, myths, and fairy tales, the stories reveal the dreams, wishes, hopes, and adventures of the animals. Although the animals live in different countries around the world, they share what we value in life: friendship, understanding, compassion, courage, peace. Animal Tales is for "kids" of all ages who love stories about animals, superpowers, and myths.
Reading Level: Ages 9-12.

Cee Cee Cow Makes New Friends
Abbey Cow and Bebe Cow stood side by side and stared at Cee Cee Cow. Cee Cee was a purple cow from Venus. She had a tree growing out of her head. And her branches were full of berries.
I wonder what those berries are for,
said Abbey.
Do you think the purple people who follow her around eat them?
asked Bebe.
The cows never spoke to Cee Cee because they were afraid of her. Zig and Zag, the two purple scientists from Venus, were trying to use Cee Cee to spy on the other cows.
I don’t trust the purple people,
said Abbey to Bebe. See how they’re always touching Cee Cee’s branches?
What do you think they’re doing to her?
asked Bebe.
I heard them say that Cee Cee can do things with her mind,
said Abbey. Maybe they’re using the berries to listen to our secrets.
If they are, let’s think about something to scare them,
said Bebe.
The two cows closed their eyes to concentrate but soon fell fast asleep.
On Venus, Zig and Zag were mad scientists. They experimented on cows that could do amazing things with their minds.
Zig, let’s go back to the lab and see what messages Cee Cee is sending about the Earth cows,
said Zag.
Zig whispered, I think they will be able to help us take over the Earth some day. Cows will do whatever we want them to do.
They both laughed until their stomachs hurt. When no one was looking, they slipped down to their hidden lab under the barn.
Cee Cee looked at the pictures that appeared above the heads of Abbey and Bebe. Abbey was flying in the air, throwing berry pies at the purple people on the ground. Bebe had balloons holding her up as she rose up to the sky. She was throwing banana cream pies at them.
I think I’ll send a special picture to the scientists,
thought Cee Cee. She sent a picture of purple people being hit by pies and then melting like ice in the hot sun.
Zig and Zag looked at their screen in the lab. They saw the melting purple people. Look,
screamed Zig. They’re thinking of flying to Venus! They’re going to destroy us with their secret weapons!
Suddenly, Abbey and Bebe woke up. Cee Cee stopped sending pictures. And the screen Zig and Zag were looking at blew up.
Zig and Zag were so scared that they destroyed everything in the lab. They ran to their spaceship, took off for Venus, and left Cee Cee behind.
Abbey went up to Cee Cee and asked, What happened to the purple people?
Don’t worry about them,
said Cee Cee. They were going to do bad things here. I used my power to scare them, and you helped me do it. They won’t be bothering us anymore.
We’re so glad you’re here,
said Abbey and Bebe at the same time. Cee Cee smiled for the first time since she had arrived on Earth.
Soon, life returned to normal. Somehow, the cows were changed forever. Abbey started wearing different capes and tried to fly. Bebe always asked for balloons so she could touch the clouds.
Cee Cee knew what everyone was thinking. But she always kept their secrets.
The three cows became very good friends. Zig and Zag were never heard from again.
