About this ebook

Buck, Snort, and Skeeter are still trailing a herd of dragons to Skrintax in hopes of selling them for enough to get off Terul and maybe get better pay, easier work, and something to drink. But the obstacles keep mounting – including a tcheka-smoking interlude, hungry dragons, insolent Terullians, and . . . well, you’ll see.

Think of "Star Trek," "The Rounders," and a little "Lonesome Dove" all shaken together and poured out, and you’ll have some idea of what you’re about to taste when you step into Buck Johnson’s life. It’s a wild mix of Fantasy, Action/Adventure, Western, and Science Fiction.

Buck Johnson: Trailing the Herd” is the third Buck Johnson short story (approximately 3,800 words).

    Trailing the Herd

This is a work of fiction. The characters are nothing more than inventions of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to real persons, places, or institutions on Earth is purely coincidental.

This story is included in the five-story collection titled Dragon Wrangler Collection I.

    Buck Johnson: Trailing the Herd

A herd of nearly two hundred dragons can stir up a lot of dust. But, now, Buck Johnson was riding point and didn’t have to have all that sulfur-laden Terullian dust clogging his nose and eyes. This time, Snort Jones and Skeeter Evans were with the drags pushing the increasingly lethargic dragons. Buck felt a lot better than he did three weeks ago when rustlers had very nearly gotten clean away with half the herd.

But a new exigency had lately wormed its way in and begun eating away at Buck’s good mood. It was time for the dragons to feed. They were getting slower and slower.

Dragons, of course, are strict carnivores.
