Indian Summer
Penny forced herself to close the binder and set it on the seat beside her. It would be a crime to pay more attention to her work than her dinner right now; she hardly ever got the chance to enjoy a meal out, but she was determined to make this trip different than all the rest. She took another bite of the tikka masala. Delicious, she thought, savoring the tender, smoky chicken.
She tore a piece of naan and dipped it in the sauce. As she chewed, she looked around the place. The food was the highlight of the place, since the décor wasn’t going to win any awards. The restaurant was decorated with generic paintings of landscapes that could have been anywhere, still lifes of fruit, and dusty plants. Only the Bollywood posters hanging behind the cash register gave any indication that it was an Indian restaurant.
Aside from the staff, of course. Penny turned her head and saw her waitress heading toward her. The girl must have been about twenty-one, with jet-black hair that fell to the middle of her back, perfectly bronzed skin, and eyes so shockingly green that Penny found it hard to look away.
How is everything?
