Joseph Sweet was born October 31 1976, and has been writing seriously since the age of sixteen. He currently lives in the upstate NY community of Watertown. Aside from writing he plays guitar and keyboard, writes and sings his own songs, and is an amateur photographer. He has worked in Television and radio doing voices and making and editing commercials, played in several bands, and acted in theater, but his greatest passion is and always has been his writing.

    8:45 P. M.

    Fran and Bill sat on the back porch of his summer home in Sackets Harbor, New York - Fran on Bill’s lap - holding each other and listening to the sounds of nature all around them.

    This is how it should be, he thought as he looked across the large span of property, past the cliffs, over the lake; the woods surrounded them on all other sides.

    It was peaceful here, just the two of them.

    Then as though on cue, a low sickly moan startled him and he recalled that Jack had passed out earlier in the living room.

    Jack had been his friend since college, which was not all that far behind him. He’d been practically surgically attached to his side ever since though. At times he loved the guy like a brother, but at others, he wished that he would find some other friends or develop a hobby or something. A few days alone with Fran would be like a dream vacation out here. But what could he say?

    I’d have done better not to remember he was here, he thought and squeezed Fran playfully to take his mind off the subject.

    She stirred and got up.

    Be right back, hon.
