Introduction
Did you have the kind of parents that you deserved? Did they give hugs freely? Did they let you know that they loved and believed in you? Were they your biggest cheer leaders? Did they make you feel special? When anything good happened in your life did your parents always find a way to minimize it or tell you how well someone else’s child was doing? Did they often compare you to other people’s children and say things such as why can’t you be more like Lisa
or Richard is so handsome", all the while telling you that your nose was too big, you were too skinny and they wished that they didn’t have children? Did you soon realize that no matter what you had accomplished you would never measure up to their expectations? Did you find yourself wanting to run off somewhere just so you wouldn’t have to listen to them berate and belittle you day in and day out? Did you begin to feel like it wasn’t children that they didn’t want but that they just didn’t want you?
One of the worst things that a child can ever experience is having parents that do not make them feel loved. Sometimes bad parents happen to good children. That doesn’t mean that they were a bad people, it just means that they were bad parents. I was the result of bad parents happening to a good child. The reason I say was a result of is because I learned how to get rid of the toxicity that had become my life. As the day’s turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months and months turned into years I struggled to find a way out from under the depression and pain that had been holding me hostage.
