We're going to a make-out spot suggested by your little sister?

What can I say, I didn't do this sort of thing in high school. Allison tugged Matthew's hand, pulling him along the forest path, grinning.

But now that you're a college student home for Thanksgiving, it's a good excuse to get away from your family for a while?

Allison glanced back at him. Um, yeah. It's a good excuse. He really was that clueless. Well, this would be a good test of whether her sister was right about the place.

The story Becky had told her didn't really make much sense. But it did make this seem like a good make-out spot. Allison loved horror movies every bit as much as Becky did. The idea that this old house might be haunted by a ghost who--

They were there. The path came out of the woods onto a quiet suburban street. Most of the street was well-lit, but the nearest streetlight was out, and the house immediately across was entirely dark. Abandoned. Even the For Sale sign in the front yard was old and weather-beaten.

She pulled Matthew around the back.

Are you sure this house is empty? That we won't get in trouble?

"That much, I'm definitely sure of. This house hasn't been lived in since I was in junior high. I never broke into it before, but Becky says there's a window back here that doesn't shut all the way... There! Allison pointed. Do you think you can jiggle that open, you big strong man, you?"

Matthew shot her a look, but reached up and slid the window panel up. Now I suppose you're going to bat your eyelashes some more to get me to climb in first and open the door for you?

Oh, thank you ever so much for offering, kind sir! Allison giggled, batting her lashes comically. But don't open the door, I don't know if it's alarmed. I just know the window's not.

Matthew was already scrambling awkwardly in as she said this; but when he made it to the other side, he nodded and stood around while Allison clambered up to the window herself.

It occurred to her at this point that a miniskirt wasn't the best choice for climbing through windows. But at least he was in front of her, instead of boosting her up from behind. That might have given him ideas.

Of course, giving him ideas was the whole point of this exercise.
