    Love happens in so many different ways for people. For a few it’s instantaneous, a hormonal, instinctual response to another person that really is love at first sight. Others may be with their partner for years, may have even married them and celebrated multiple anniversaries, before they finally realize whatever pressures got them together with this person in the first place, they can only shudder with thankfulness that it happened because...whoah, they love them and can’t imagine a life without them. (I haven’t written that one yet, but I’ve getting flashes of that scene from Fiddler on the Roof where Tevye asks his wife, Do you love me?)

    But however it happens, it always seems to sneak in unexpectedly. Even if we were wishing and hoping and yearning, a part of us is always surprised when love taps us on the shoulder and everything we thought we understood about our lives suddenly spins around. Everything is new. Everything is different. Wonderful. Exciting.

    So without further ado, here are five of my quick takes on that exhilarating rush.

    Love in the Wings – I used to do a lot of theater. Now my teenage daughter is in it and my heart is always up there with her. If you’re good, your heart is always so open and vulnerable.

    Footprints in the Sand - Because there have been times in my life when I’ve needed to run away and the ocean shore is always an emotional touchstone for me.

    A Father for Brodie – My friends who are single moms or dads have got to have one of the most challenging life jobs in the world, to care for their children and themselves with what often seems like no support or understanding. Mama bear times two. And when someone offers to share some of that load, how can you separate out all the interests and emotions involved?

    Making Room – Obviously single-parenthood was still on my mind with this one, though the issues and personalities are
