    Janice Bridges stood looking out the window, watching the falling snow. This was the first winter she was not going to spend in Jamaica, where she lived and was raised.

    Sure, she'd visited her grandparents' ranch in America every summer, but she'd only seen pictures and movies of snow and had never even felt cold weather. Now she couldn't believe she was standing there watching the snow falling on the ranch outside of Rapid City, South Dakota.

    She put her hand on the windowpane and felt the cold. She shuttered; how could anyone stand it? She was used to running down the beach about this time of year, two weeks before Christmas. Christmas was usually spent on her father's yacht in the Caribbean.
