About this ebook
Several years ago, when Leah Nisbet was much younger, a missionary from Ireland made a profound statement about Leah's life: he compared her life to a tapestry being woven, an intricate pattern that would only be clear when the tapestry was complete.
Fast forward to the present; Leah's life has been like that tapestry. Having grown up in a devout Christian home, she drifted out of that environment after the tragic death of her twin brother. Leah's testimony about how she ended up in a life of alcohol, drugs and abusive relationships makes compelling reading. It is an example of how a life that started with so much promise in a Christian home can end up on the rocks of abuse and self-destruction. Her story is a vivid account of a young woman’s struggles to find meaning and solace in life, leading her to make so many wrong choices.
Thankfully, like the prodigal son, Leah found the courage to return, to her home and to her God. This is her story - a tapestry being woven, full of God's grace that pulled her out of a life of misery back into the security of Jesus' embrace.

CHAPTER ONE
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say No
to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour,
Jesus Christ.
Titus 2:11-13
Lord, what am I gonna write?
That was my reaction when I had a strong urge that the Lord wanted to me to write a book about my testimony. I know that sometimes when we think of a testimony, we automatically look for something dramatic, like a life of tragedy, heartache or other major occurrences in someone’s life. Many Christians shrink back from sharing their testimony, thinking there is nothing awe-inspiring or dramatic in their life story, but not everyone can be a Billy Graham or Corrie Ten Boon. We all have different experiences and every intervention of God in our life becomes part of our testimony.
When you accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour, no matter what age you were when it happened or the circumstances under which you became saved, that is your unique and divine testimony, and Jesus wants you to share with the lost and dying world. This is why I believe firmly that our testimonies will find resonance in someone’s heart, or challenge someone to draw closer to Jesus.
I grew up in a loving, stable Christian home where my parents loved the Lord and protected me and my brothers from anything harmful. It wasn’t a perfect or wealthy home but we never doubted we were loved. It was a God fearing Spirit filled home, and we went to church twice on Sundays, bible study on Mondays and prayer meeting on Wednesdays; my life was saturated with Christian activities. I became saved, filled with the Spirit and was baptized when I was thirteen. At that very young age, I realized that I had a passion for sharing the gospel with non-believers and did not feel embarrassed or shy to speak to people about Jesus. When I was only about eight or ten years old, whilst reading my picture bible, the Lord used to speak to me through His Word and it scared me. My dad used to find me crying and he would ask me what was wrong and I would reply Jesus talks to me
. The truth is that I felt the stirring of the Holy Spirit at a very young age. One of my favorite stories in the Bible is the calling of the prophet Samuel because I can relate to what he was sensing at that young age.
However, as I grew up, I started to drift away from God. My ‘backsliding’ did not happen suddenly or out of the blue, rather it was a slow and often unnoticed process, through the insidious craftiness of the enemy, with him taking advantage of doors that I had left open in my life, and patiently developing a foothold in my life until the day came that I realized that I no longer had any zeal for the things of God. I was the young girl who would stand up and testify to people and declare I will never sleep with a man before marriage, I will never live with a man before marriage, I will never drink, do drugs, and definitely I will never walk away from Jesus
.
Well I’m here now to testify to you that I did all of those things… and what breaks my heart the most is that I walked away from my Lord and saviour. It was a slow process, the more I justified ‘worldliness’ in my life, the more the Holy Spirit’s conviction left, so I started doing things that I vowed I would never do. I hear from many young people who have grown up in Church, or have parents in the ministry and feel like they are missing out on life, but do not realize that they are living life the way Jesus intended. Don’t sell out! It is not worth it! There is a dangerous mind bent with young people in churches, especially young women, a way of thinking which lets them say that well, it might be good for me to experience the world so that I might have a better testimony
. You are on a slippery slope if you think along those lines, the pain and misery that you will encounter when you walk away from Jesus does not make the experience worth it. I can’t take back those years that I lost, the tears, the abuse I suffered from relationships, the horrible experiences I went through – it wasn’t worth it.
When the prodigal son left with his inheritance, he thought he had the world by the tail. Our inheritance is subject to our free will, and we need to ask ourselves what choices we want to make because those choices will have far-reaching consequences. The prodigal son didn’t see the pig pen; he never considered that he would end up eating with pigs, all he saw was freedom or what he thought was freedom. Ultimately he came back home broken and bound. The enemy comes at us with smoke and mirrors...a lie! The minute you think you can’t be deceived is the very minute you are deceived. It’s all by God’s grace and I give Him all the credit for me coming back to His loving arms. The fact is; I left Jesus, He did not leave me… and when I came back, He was right there where I left off. I have experienced the ‘pig pen’ and I don’t ever want to be there again.
When I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and saviour at the age of thirteen, it was my choice! No one pressured me and I made that decision because I felt the Lord’s hand upon my life in a very deep way. He had worked miracles in my life when I wasn’t even born yet. When my mom was pregnant with me and my twin brother, she had severe complications at the beginning...so severe that the doctor advised mom to abort the babies in her womb because we wouldn’t survive, and even if we did, one of us would be severely disabled in some way.
My folks were from a very small town in Ontario, and had gotten married at a very young age; Mom was eighteen and Dad was
