Author

J. P. Hines II

I am a writer of both fiction and non-fiction, dealing with subject matter that carries an emotional message. Based in the midwestern United States, I have been authoring both short stories, novellas, and novels since the age of 10 and first became a published author with the release of "Molly" in May 2003. The range of material I write spans drama, erotica, and adventure as well as mixing of each. As a writer of fiction, I thoroughly enjoy creating worlds and populating them with interesting casts of characters, stirring the pot to see what develops. The outcome sometimes surprises even me!

    Chapter: Arrival

Seldom did Scott Larssen return from a trip without feeling some sense of invigoration, but after such a long trip to the Caribbean he was utterly exhausted. His calloused hands ached. Still, his cup of coffee was steaming hot, the sun was shining, the sky was blue and cloudless, and favorable breezes had brought him back home to Seabrook.

Sitting on the deck, coffee in hand, gave him to reflect a little. The first person he intended to see on their return was his brother, Saul. He was sure that young James Hewitt had, by now, fully informed him of what had happened. He normally found quiet and some semblance of solitude at Villa Victorioso but this time found the desire to leave it as quickly as possible. Not because he had developed ill feeling for it but because he felt an overwhelming urge to set a few things straight. Scott was a very straightforward man who did not appreciate being plotted against or stabbed in the back. He never imagined Saul would be this meddlesome but he felt especially protective toward his niece and was deeply disturbed at what Elise's father had attempted.

Since childhood, Scott and Saul had always been close. Although they had different fathers, they had grown up very similar boys. Both were headstrong, ambitious, and not afraid to take on challenges. Now, Scott was beginning to think maybe turning over day-to-day management of Westwinds to Saul might have been a mistake.

As he guided the Lady Light toward her docking, he decided he wouldn't involve his staff in what he considered family intrigue. This one he would handle himself. He was already formulating some ideas. His brother definitely had some explaining to do.

Good morning, a still sleepy Elise said as she came up on deck, taking a seat beside Uncle Scott. For her and Wylie, the return trip from Cozumel had been very restful and enjoyable. The thought that she was engaged to be married was still settling in and she kept an overwhelming sense of joy without always realizing why. This would undoubtedly take a little time to get used to!

Good morning kiddo, Scott replied as he winked at her, continuing to guide them to dock. Wylie still sleeping?

No. He's getting dressed. As she yawned and stretched, Elise couldn't help but admire what a perfect day it was. Galveston Bay never looked so good.

I'm planning on paying young Mr. Hewitt a visit today, Scott said somewhat offhandedly." He wanted to do more than just pay him a visit, truth be told.

You think that's a good idea?

Scott grinned, reassuring her. I think it's a good idea that's a bit overdue, kiddo.

Elise wasn't so sure. You realize he has my father in his hip pocket, right?

I think they're both up each other's asses, unless I'm reading them wrong, Scott replied, and I don't think I am.

Uncle Scott! Elise laughed. All I want is to put this trip behind us. At least part of it.

Scott nodded in agreement. I promise I won't stir the pot unnecessarily, he said, his look becoming stern. But there are some questions that need answers, and it starts with your father. Scott could understand Elise's concern but he feared Saul might continue to interfere with her relationship with Wylie. He wouldn't have thought that before but the fact that he sent James Hewitt to Cozumel for that very purpose demonstrated his willingness to stretch great lengths to cause trouble. This worried him.

Are you thinking dad's going to cause trouble? Elise asked. I mean, do you think he'd actually do that?

I think he's capable of a lot more than I thought he was. In reality, Scott was more concerned about this than he wanted Elise to know. Your father should support your choice. You are as headstrong as he is, but thankfully not in the same ways.

Elise grinned. She knew her father and knew what Uncle Scott was trying to say.

Wylie! Scott shouted. All hands! Going to need your help to tie up in a couple minutes!

Scarcely a moment later, Wylie appeared, bounding
