Vol-2
Chapter 1
––––––––
With all the strange stuff going on in the valley, and with Bob Tomas missing, Frank Bell wasn't taking any chances with his horses and cattle.. Frank pulled on his coat ,strapped on his colt and grabbed his Winchester . He turned to Donna , telling her to lock the door behind him and to grab the shotgun. "Donna, don't open the door, unless I say to, and if anyone comes in unannounced, Blow Them To Hell!" Frank turned back to the door, lit his lantern and headed outside into a cold dark night.
Donna was scared, but she was a strong, and determined woman, and she would stand her ground for her family and home. She went around blowing out all the candles and sat down in a rocking chair waiting, No one was going to take this from us!. We have worked too hard!
she thought.
Frank had dreams, plans and goals. As each one was fulfilled, he was on to the next one. Then he met Donna Shaw, from McCall, Idaho, and he courted her for a year before her father would let them marry. Joey was born a year later.. or Joe Bell
, as he would always remind us, Frank smiled at his thought.
The wind moaned through the valley. Thank God, the rain had stopped.
Frank should have smelt fresh air but something rancid, something dead, something unnatural filled the air tonight.
Frank wanted to check the horses first, so he headed towards the horse corral, but no horses were in sight. He stopped dead in his tracks, when he noticed a dark shape in the middle of the corral. Frank walked forward slowly with the lantern held high. He saw a horse laying on the ground.
Jackson was a big Red Morgan and it was his horse. God dammit! "The only thing big enough to do this, it had to be a bear'', Frank thought. His horse was gutted and left to die.
Then, Frank heard a gut wrenching scream from around the back of the barn. It didn't sound human
, Frank thought.
He had to admit to himself, that he was scared. But he wasn't going to let this get the best of him. So he cocked his Winchester and headed towards the barn.
The wind started to pick up making it hard to hear anything else. The lantern light was throwing shadows across the ground and the barn.. like dancing beast in the moon light.
Frank edged up to the corner of the barn and peeked around it. What he saw...it raised the hair up on his head..Something big was crouching over their family dog "Rocky" ripping and tearing at him.
Frank thought a Bear
, as he laid the lantern down. He took a breath and stepped around the corner bringing his Winchester up. He froze. What he saw, would stay with him for the rest of his life. It turned toward him. All he remembered was the yellow eyes with blood and gore running down the front of it..
Then, it came at him fast. Frank tried to get his Winchester up to aim, but the thing was so fast, that it hit him, and knocked him to the ground, making his shot go wild, losing his grip on his rifle, it fell out of reach.
It raised up over him. All Frank could make out in the dark, it was a Big man covered in fur. But the head was all wrong,.....and those eyes,....then he heard himself screaming..........
