Have you ever struggled or felt like life is all together too hard? In that struggle have you ever felt like you can’t find the words to express what you are feeling? Have you ever been around someone who you know is in a lot of pain, but you feel like you can’t fully understand them? Well, My Life’s Journey…is a great book to read. It truly is a universal book that all can relate to.
Being only thirteen months younger than my brother, Nathan Robinson offered me a unique perspective on his life. I watched him go through an intense inner struggle to find a purpose for life. During this time, he was hard to be around and he felt like no one understood him, but one thing he could and would do was write. I remember sitting in the living room with my mom and younger brother while Nathan read poems he had written. We felt like he was given a gift to express the deep questions many seem to have in this life, but cannot find the words to express them.
During this time I wondered if my brother was ever going to make it out of this perpetual state of pessimism because he seemed to have only tough questions, but no real answers. However, through a set of divine circumstances he started channeling this very negative questioning into something positive. He finally felt like he was getting some answers. He began to fuel that energy into making something of himself that would better the society around him.
Looking back, my brother’s transformation was a big one. It was like he had traveled through the dark and dingy dungeons of his heart and gone almost to the point of no return, but miraculously made it out. He went from someone parents did not want their children to be around to someone parents desired their children to be around.
Now my brother still has questions, but it’s a different sort of questions. It’s the type of questions that come from having hope not despair; trust not fear; love not hate. I know you will enjoy walking this journey alongside my brother as you read his heartfelt collection of inspired poems.
I am very thankful to have a brother like Nathan, who was not afraid to ask the hard questions, but learned how to turn it into something positive. I know his journey is not over, and to be honest, I am glad it’s not. There are still many answers out there for him and all of us to find in this life, and I am grateful that he will keep searching until he finds them.

lntroduction
My Life’s Journey… is a book of poetry that tries to display the inner-struggle of my life between the ages of 18 and 23. The book is set up as a progression through maturity during that period of my life. It is separated into three sections (Questioning, Answers, and Questions) to show the mental, emotional, and spiritual growth during that time in my life.
The first section, Questioning,
is a collection of poems that are arranged in such a way to show the reader the questioning of my purpose in life and internal and external struggles that resulted from those questions. That was a very confusing and isolated period of time for me, and this set of poems brings that to life.
The second section is called Answers.
These poems show some of that frustration and confusion being channeled in a positive way through creative expression. Also some of these poems exemplify a spiritual side of me that is starting to play a dominant role in my perception on life and what is going on around me.
The third section is called Questions.
Although I found some answers, they only brought more questions that needed to be answered to my heart. These poems display to the reader a more complex and more mature expression of my struggle that I face internally with myself, the world around me, with God, and where I stand with him.
The title of this book My Life’s Journey... has the ellipsis after it because it symbolizes that my life’s journey is not over. The title says that this is what I have come up with so far. It is my hope that some of these poems can be felt in the hearts of the people who read them, because that is where all of these poems were written from—my heart.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Set Me Free

Set me Free - so I can grow into who I am supposed to be
Set me Free - because my mind is caged down by the expectations of this society
I hurt inside, but I can’t show my feelings
Because, what’s the point - when the people I’m dealing with don’t have the capacity in their brain to feel me
Set me Free - because all I’ve ever seen was negativity
So much so, that I thought that what I saw was what I am supposed to be
People judge me based on what they can see,
They don’t consider that what they haven’t seen or what they don’t see on the inside of me, is really who I am
Set me Free - because unconditional love is something I have never experienced
I might look mad, but I am really jealous
Because knowing that I never had true love makes me furious,
I’m curious about this world outside of what I see
But coming to the realization that when I was born - success was
