Great Faith - Christopher Hylton

Introduction
As a young child I had the great opportunity to travel around the country singing and ministering in tent revivals, churches, and campmeetings in various states, around these great United States. You could see me lying in the back seat or back window of whatever small vehicle we had at the time (usually a Ford Escort or Chevette). These were the greatest times of my life and also the hardest times of our lives as a family. But something happened along the way. We learned how to live by faith. I’m not talking about something that I’ve heard but something I experienced myself; faith to believe God for gas, food, or whatever else we needed in our lives. We lived by Faith! We didn’t have a retirement plan, a 401K waiting for us at our retirement or even a plan for future earnings. We trusted God for everything and it WORKED!! I have seen our gas needle start to go up instead of down while we were praying and driving down the road. I have seen perfect strangers walk up to us at a convenience store and give us just enough money to take us to the next place. Some people said we were Gypsies and that we would never make anything of ourselves, but we were working for God and something happened along this journey….our Faith began to grow. In this book I want to talk about Great Faith and give you seven things that Great Faith will do in desperate times.
Chapter One
What is Faith?
Scripture tells us in Hebrews 11
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and it’s the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is a spirit. I recall in the Old Testament that Caleb and Joshua had another Spirit about them. They knew they could take the promise land. How did they know? Because God said it! You see, faith is believing in what God has said, and then acting upon it. It’s one thing to know what God said, but it’s an entirely different thing to act upon it. Peter did this when he walked on the water.
Matthew 14:22-33
"And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth [his] hand,
