Chap-1_Alyssa_watched_him.jpgAlyssa ran across the high school campus. Oh, great,
she muttered. The first day of American Studies, and I’m running late.
The stately Practical Arts building loomed before her, three stories tall. The main façade faced the equally majestic Classical building. She paused at the door and steeled her posture for courage.
Steph and Idgy, her older friends, took American Studies last year. She remembered the number of weekend plans that had been ruined by arduous writing assignments, showing American Studies was a tough class. Her friends told her they spent a lot of their Saturdays writing papers. The class was a necessary evil, though, if she wanted to prep for college. With four semesters in the school, Aly knew the class demanded one major writing assignment a semester to get the students used to a larger college workload.
Alyssa sighed at the thought of all that work and then marched up the steps ready for her share of arduous writing assignments.
As Alyssa found her classroom on the second floor, she made a mental list of what she’d need to
