    A Billionaire Ex

    Part Four

    Chapter 1

What do you mean stealing client information? I said. I went straight home after our team dinner.

Ms. Lawson, it was after 3am when you got home, said the man. Your team dinner was over at 1am, so at the latest you should've been home sixty to ninety minutes later. So what were you doing that whole time?

I really did go home right after...

My head ached slightly, and I remembered heading back to the office after the team dinner. I had been upset.

You went to the customer information file room after your team dinner, said the man. And you left with all the customer information on a USB drive. And we know that you went down to the server room to delete the security footage so that we wouldn't know!

    No...

    You're saying that you didn't?

I'm seriously going to lose my mind, I whispered.

We have the evidence right here, said the man, pointing to a blue envelope on the desk. Your personal ID card record. It records every time someone enters a room. Weren't you aware of that?

ID card? You mean my employee badge? I said. I lost that.

I felt like I was losing my mind. Why did I even return to the office? Think, think. My head wasn't just there for looking pretty. It hit me right away. What I'd done.

I remember now, I said. I went down to the underground parking garage.

So what did you do down there?

I know that I went there, but as to why I went there is a bit...

Are you kidding me right now? said the man. Do you want me to tell you what you did? You stole all the customer information from the file room on the eighth floor. Then you went down to the server room to delete the security footage!

What? I said. I did that?

The security man banged the table, and I jumped back in my chair alarmed.

Ms. Lawson, said the man. Your alibi for the unaccounted time between the team dinner, and the occurrence of the crime, shall I narrate it for you? You pretended to go home after dinner, but you actually went back to the office.

Well, it was true that I returned to the office, but I didn't pretend that I was going home. Not that I could say anything like that with the man glaring daggers at me.

Then you pretended that you were going to your desk, when in actuality, you snuck into the client information room which is on the same floor, said the man. You stole all of our company's customer information, then you stopped by the security room which is located in the basement. You probably snuck some sleeping pills into the coffee that the security guard was drinking, after which you proceeded to delete all security footage during the time of the crime. Didn't you? Didn't you?

    I did that? I said.

Yes, you did! said the man, once again banging the table.

I buried my head in my hands, confused by the allegations. Since when had I become a super secret spy agent? Another hour passed as I was threatened further. I waited, and tried to recall what exactly had happened last night. I was upset after the team dinner, so I went back to the office, and headed to the underground parking garage. I was upset with Jack.

    I remember now, I said.

What? said the man. What do you remember now?

I remember what really happened, I said. The reason I went there is because... I had some business to take care of with the CEOs car."

A-are you kidding me right now? said the man. What business could you have with the CEOs car?"

The thing is... I said, pleadingly.

    The door opened behind me.

A car wash, said Jack, walking inside the room. It seems as though my car is going to need a good wash.

I looked down as Jack stared at me. He knew.

And this, said Jack. Why don't you check this out?

He handed a USB drive to one of the security men. They plugged the USB drive into the laptop, and opened a video file. It was a dash camera from a car. The footage began with me walking up, and collapsing against Jack's car, before I started screaming at it, and hitting it several times. I looked like I was about to throw up, and Jack then paused the screen.

There's a lot more, said Jack. Including a new paint job, but you don't need to see that.

I see, said the man. If you were there during that time, you can't be the culprit. I'm sorry, Ms. Lawson.
