    There is no deep, dark mystery about ventriloquism. Anyone, who is willing to practice long and diligently and who possesses a natural flexibility of the vocal cords, can acquire sufficient ventriloquial skill to entertain himself and his friends.

    Ventriloquists are not born, as are successful singers, poets and painters, who must have a definite and inherent ability to sing, write poems and paint. On the other hand, not everyone can become a professionally expert ventriloquist. However, by constant practice, it is possible for the average person to develop a practical skill which will be a source of amusement to himself and others. Also there is always the chance that, while practicing amateur ventriloquy, the student may discover that he has a marked talent for the art which, with more concentrated development, may lead him into the ranks of the professionals.

    There are two necessary qualifications for both amateur and professional ventriloquism. First, you must have the determination to practice constantly and regularly because only faithful practice brings the ease and poise which are essential to successful ventriloquy. Secondly, you must possess a natural flexibility of the vocal cords which will permit a variation in the tonal quality and strength of your voice. A third qualification, which is not absolutely necessary but which is of great importance, is a gift of mimicry and dramatic effects.
