About this ebook
A child he’s never met.
A danger he’s never known. That he’s a father is news former Navy SEAL Ben Slocum was not expecting. But once the initial shock wears off for the confirmed bachelor, he takes in the rest of what social worker Claire Chastain tells him: that his son is missing, abducted by a man who wants revenge against Claire and Sam’s dead mother. And that Ben is now the child's only hope.
As Ben and Claire band together to track the two down, their concern for Sam draws them closer, each fighting feelings there's no time to explore. Because when their search takes them too close to Sam’s abductor and his cohorts, the danger hits home—the son he’s desperate to save, the woman he’s desperate to love…Ben's got one chance to take back what's his, and in one gunshot he could lose it all.

KAT MARTIN
For New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin, a career in real estate led her down the road to romance. Through real estate, Kat found her own perfect match — her husband, Western author Larry Jay Martin. "We were on opposing sides of a transaction — I represented the seller and he represented the buyer," Kat recalls. A short time after the two became acquainted, Larry asked her to read an unpublished manuscript of an historical western he'd written. Kat fell in love with both the book and the author! "It was quite a romantic story," she admits. "I'd still like to see it get published." Then, after doing some editing for her future husband, she thought she'd try her own hand at writing. Kat moved on to become the bestselling author of over thirty historical and contemporary romance novels. To date, 10 million copies of her books are in print, and she's been published around the globe, including Germany, Norway, Sweden, China, Korea, Bulgaria, Russia, England, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Argentina and Greece. When she's not writing, Kat also enjoys skiing and traveling, particularly to Europe. Currently, she's busy writing her next book. Kat loves to hear from readers via her email: katmartin@katbooks.com

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Against the Edge by Kat MartinBen Slocum has fathered a child he didn't know he had and here is Claire the social worker-friend of the mother who's passed away informing him the child's been kidnapped.Love this series and the meticulous thinking and uncovering clues to find the child. He's an ex-Seal and has friends that are as highly trained as him.Love catching up with the others in the family and the travel involved as the main focus takes you places you've never been.Caring story as the father's never known of the 9 year old existence nor death of the woman he knew. Claire tells me of other things as time goes on making that a mystery in itself.Hot steamy sex as the trail leads them to more places to explore. The trail leads them to a guy in jail and that leads them to more places...The story also follows the group that took the child and what they are up against and what happens on their way to escape...Action really escalates after she tells them some of her secrets.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow, what a book. This was my first Kat Martin, but after reading this book I've put the rest of this series in my TBR pile. This book started with Ben finding out he had a son and that his son was missing. From there the book didn't slow down at all. I really liked Ben and his determination to save Sam even though he had been kept from him for nine years. Claire was just as determined to save Sam any way she could. And of course together they stopped at nothing. They didn't make to bad a couple either. There was also couples from previous books that made an appearance or two. Even though this was the eighth book in the series I didn't feel lost in any way and don't feel as if you have to read the series in order to know whats going on, but I'm sure it would probably be more enjoyable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Against the Edge (The Raines of Wind Canyon, #8) I have read 4 out of the 8 books in the Raines of Wind Canyon series. This one does not disappoint in drama, suspense, action and likeable characters. It is also steamy. I admit to skipping over the sex scenes. Good plot, lots of different characters.Claire is a social worker and she wanted to get custody of her friends son Sam after she dies but judge said no. Then Sam disappeared from his foster family home. Who did not report him missing for 2 days. Claire feels she let Sam down.Sam is 9 years old and still grieving for his mom when he goes missing. The police think he is a runaway. The foster family believes that too. Sam thinks no one cares about him anymore. That even Claire has forgotten him. He does have a friend now a dog. Claire disagrees with them. She thinks it is a old boyfriend of Sam's mom Laura. Who was mad that Laura left him and blames Claire for it. Claire goes to Sam's father Ben and lets him know he is a father to nine year old Sam and he is missing.Ben is a ex-seal and now does security work with a team. They are like a family to him. Are willing to help when they can. Ben doesn't trust women after Laura let him down years ago. He only has one night stands. Now he finds out he is a father and wants to find him. Ben and Claire get close and sleep together. They agree its only for the one night. That does not last for too long.Lots of drama and action that keeps you wanting to read. When you think it has calmed down some something else happens. It brings back a lot of characters from previous books and lets you know how it is going for them now. Which I enjoy.I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley.Expected publication: April 30th 2013 by Harlequin MIRA 400 pages ISBN 9780778314431
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In Martin’s suspense novel, navy SEAL Ben Slocum is shocked to learn that he’s a father. Once the shock wears off, social worker Claire Chastain tells him the rest: his son is missing and Ben is his only chance. Fighting an attraction they have no time for, the duo heads out in pursuit of the kidnappers. As danger moves close to home, Ben is forced to admit that he will do anything to save his family.A well spun story told by a master of the genre.
