    African Elephant

    The African Elephant

    After a day’s worth of traveling from Ohio to the rainforests of Africa, Monte finally arrived at his campsite where it all began. The very next morning, while walking through the rainforest, Monte discovered a herd of elephants crossing a long, fast-flowing river that was almost deep enough to cover the elephants from head to toe.

    Monte once learned in school, that there are two types of elephants; Asian and African elephants. These elephants are plant eaters, otherwise known as herbivores. Elephants can swim by using their long trunks like a snorkel in deep water! They also use their large thin ears to control their body temperature. These largest living land mammals can live to be 70 years old!

    Monte was so excited about his trip, that he was anxious to see more! The only thing stopping him was that the next campsite was a day’s hike away. He quickly packed his bags, and ventured on one of the most peaceful hikes he had ever been on.
