Chapter One: Introduction

The story revolves around the central character Colin. He happens to be a child prodigy. He definitely has a type. He happens to have dated nineteen girls up to the present time. All of them are named Katherine.
Colin does not know how it happens because he claims that he does not particularly go for girls named Katherine. He has no idea how to have a normal relationship with girls.
The book tries to inform the reader through the experiences of Colin. It asks the reader to think about what happens when a person grows up and finds that life is not the way the person had thought it would be.
It became a highly popular novel right after its first publication. It began to be sold in large numbers. The book was able to win several prestigious awards.
It became very popular among the young adult readers, particularly college students and young working people.
Chapter Two: Plot Overview
Colin Singleton, the central character of the novel, happens to be a child prodigy, but he is doubtful and afraid whether he will become an adult prodigy when he grows up.
He gets dumped by his girlfriend Katherine XIX. He feels that something is missing in him and he begins to seek that missing piece. He wants to feel whole again. He wants to be important.
He has a hope that he would become a genius by having a ‘eureka’ moment. It transpires that during his lifetime he has dated nineteen girls named Katherine.
All of them have the same spelling of their names. He only remembers the Katherine who had dumped him.
After his graduation from high school, Hassan Harbish happens to be his best and only friend. Colin happens to have suffered a recent breakup. Hassan somehow persuades him to go on a road trip with him to feel easy and comfortable.
Colin accepts the invitation. He hopes to find his ‘eureka’ moment on the way during their journey.
Hassan and Colin drive from Chicago to Tennessee. They reach the alleged resting place of the body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. They come across Lindsey Lee Wells there.
Colin and Hassan get hired by Hollis, Lindsey’s mother. She is the owner of a local factory that produces tampon strings. They begin to live with their employer and her daughter in a rural town of Gutshot, Tennessee.
Hollis sends Colin and Hassan to interview all adult residents of the town. She wants them to collect the oral history of the town. Colin and Hassan begin to work.
With the passage of time, Colin feels that he is getting attracted to Lindsey. She has an on and off boyfriend named Colin. Colin
