Chapter One – Friends for Support

Here you go, Robin handed Linda a hot cup of tea before sitting cross-legged on the couch next to her. Are you sure you don’t want to tell me what’s wrong? I don’t think I’ve seen you this visibly upset in a long time.

Linda shook her head and sipped her tea. She didn’t want to tell Robin about Samson. Some things were just better to herself. Thanks for coming over here, though. It’s nice being with friends right now.

I wish I could help more. She sighed with frustration. Are you positive?

Linda nodded. Robin was very understanding, but she doubted she would understand this particular mistake. Let’s just watch television, okay?

Okay, Robin said, but she didn’t sound happy about it. But you know you can always talk to me, right?

Linda smiled. Yes! She said. I know. But I just don’t feel like talking. The thing was, she did. But she doubted Robin would actually understand. She slept with her boss! While she was still in love with Joey and pregnant with his child! Nausea rolled through her stomach just thinking about it. She sipped her tea to help calm it. She needed to forget about Samson, which would be damn hard when she was working for him. Let’s watch Titanic, okay?

Chapter Two – Beer and Advice in the Game of Love

You really like this girl, don’t you? Paul said. He grabbed an old pizza box off the coffee table and gave the glass a quick, half-hearted swipe with a bar towel. Sorry, I haven’t been able to clean much in here.

No worries, Samson said. He propped his feet up on Paul’s coffee table and leaned back against the couch. And yeah, I really like her.

She’s not your usual type. Paul threw out the pizza box and grabbed a couple of cold beers out of the fridge. He tossed one to Samson who caught it in one slick move. She’s not all innocent and naive and everything.

No, Samson said. Maybe she used to be, but she definitely isn’t now. He shook his head. He couldn’t imagine what she was going through. He groaned. I screwed it all up, didn’t I?

Well, sleeping with her on the night you confess your feelings probably didn’t help matters, Paul said dryly. I mean, you didn’t really help your image of date them and then ditch them, did you?

He groaned. That was not my intention. And she wanted it. Really. She actually asked for it.

Look, I’m sure she did. You wouldn’t ever sleep with someone without their consent. But sometimes, even yes means no.

Samson glared at his best friend. You’re not making any sense, he said.

    Paul
