FIRST AID FOR
SEXUAL ISSUES
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
1 Corinthians 6:18
You have probably heard people say, Sin is sin
as they have pointed out that all sin is equal. All sin is equally offensive to God. The thief, the drunk, the reviler, and the one who sins sexually, all fall short and are in need of a Savior. However, as the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:18, when we sin sexually we sin against our own body. Why is sexual sin so damaging? In Genesis 1-2 of the Bible, we see the way things were meant to be. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them
(Genesis 1:27). God’s plan was for the man and woman to have a relationship with one another, Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh
(Genesis 2:24). Sexual intimacy was to be a major aspect of their relationship, And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed
(Genesis 2:25). It was to be good and enjoyable.
You might have a problem if . . .
• You find yourself using porn and/or fantasies to cope with negative moods
• You find yourself thinking about the physical attributes of those you are with rather than who they are as a person
• You find your sexual appetite changing—often because of what one has been reading or watching
Later this union became a model for Christ’s relationship to the church (Ephesians 5:32). Adam and Eve chose a different way. They believed God’s way was limiting; perhaps thinking God was trying to keep something from them (As Satan claimed, "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" Genesis 3:5). They thought they were missing out so they went their own way.
This attitude is at the root of sexual sin. We think we are missing out so we look at pornographic images, have sex with someone before we are married, engage in extramarital affairs, or feed same-sex attraction. We want to know or be our own god and go our own way.
Yet, we know we are wrong. As Adam and Eve hid in the garden and tried to cover
