Chapter 1

The buzzing around my chest was happening again. This was the third time in as many days and it was starting to spook me. It wasn’t as if I was having a heart attack or anything but it felt like a magnetic field of some sort was all around me. After a few minutes it disappeared and everything returned to normal but I had an overpowering sense to go away for a few days to the remote camping spot I frequented on a regular basis.

Being a retired person in his early sixties who was widowed, having lost my wife three years earlier, I could make this trip easily at short notice. I quickly packed the car with the basic gear I needed and headed off, making a detour via the supermarket to buy food and drinks for a few days. The drive went uneventful although I had a sense of being watched all the time and simply put it down to my anxiousness of the past few days and arrived at the camping spot three hours later, just as dusk was setting in. The tent was quickly up and the air mattress bed inflated and made ready to collapse into whenever I felt like it. My campsite was ready in no time and once I had gathered some wood and lit the fire, I sat back in my fold away camping chair, opened a cold beer and gazed up at the clear skies to watch the myriad of stars that comprised the Milky Way.

For dinner, I reheated some leftovers that I had grabbed from the freezer at home and washed it down with a second beer. There was not a sole around for miles but I didn’t feel threatened as I knew this was a very secluded area. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, there was a large open area the local farmer who owned the property had cleared many years earlier for cattle grazing. Very little traffic ventured up the road and being mid week in a non-holiday time, it would be unusual to see even one vehicle drive by. As I threw another log on the fire and opened a third beer, I noticed the clouds rolling in much to my disappointment as they would block the view of the stars.

A further thirty minutes passed before I noticed that the clouds seemed to be drifting very low to the ground. This was not unusual in itself but not at this time of the year when the air was still relatively warm. It took on an eerie feel as the mist began to envelope the entire area completely obliterating the surrounding hills. A few moments later the mist appeared to be illuminated and this started to get brighter and brighter. I wasn’t quite sure what was happening when suddenly out of nowhere an object appeared as it descended through the mist guided by powerful navigational lights and landed on the ground. There was only a low hiss rather than a roar of engines as the hovercraft type base compressed as it lowered to the ground. I was transfixed watching the craft that resembled a space shuttle type vehicle that landed on its belly and the landing reminded me of how a Harrier Jet performs a vertical landing.

Shortly, a door opened and out walked three human type beings. They were tall; my estimate was approximately eight foot, with a slender build. They were dressed in an all over dark colour outfit with what appeared to be a type of vest on their upper body. They wore no masks which meant they breathed the same air and although they had what looked like a weapon strapped to their side, they didn’t appear threatening. What did stand out was the extreme mat of thick hair on their head. They approached me and began talking.

We wish you no harm but require your help, will you come on board with us and we will explain.

I thought to myself, ‘why not, what have I got to lose’.

Yes I replied, but I need to extinguish the fire first.

Don’t worry, we will do that and with that, the alien being on my left drew the weapon from his side, moved a lever then aimed at the fire. A burst of gas shot out and the fire went out immediately as a pall of smoke rose from the ashes. I could only assume it was some sort of dry ice as it was extremely effective.

I followed them onto the craft and I was directed to be seated in an area that adjoined what was the command centre and to connect the seat belt. The craft then powered up and elevated slowly before heading off with a whoosh. In no time we were in outer space and a view of the Earth from way above was a memory I would have forever. A few minutes passed before I was directed to follow them to a room that was like a meeting area. There must have been some sort of inbuilt gravity as there was no floating feeling.

Thank you for joining us. Apologies for leaving your planet without telling you but it is safer that we are not on the surface for very long as we would be tracked. Now let me explain.

Rybor, as he introduced himself, was the leader of the space craft. There were several other similar craft flying around Earth undertaking a similar exercise. They were from a planet many light years away and like Earth, revolved around a sun. They were further advanced technology wise than we are but they had encountered a significant problem. They had eradicated all pollution from their planet but that had caused the entire population to become sterile as their bodies had not been conditioned to any bacteria and viruses. All males had been affected but a small group of females had not. These females had been isolated and kept under strict quarantine to monitor their situation. A number of these females had been selected to join various search parties looking for suitable planets and beings to impregnate them in the quest to enable their race to survive. There were five of these women on board this craft and they were hoping that I would be willing and able to undertake this fertilisation.

I am I responded, but why me?

You are of the age, build and from what we have gathered so far, have the natural DNA that we are looking for to enhance our population.

That explains the tingling sensations I have had in the past few days.

Yes, that was our preliminary checks.

But I would have thought that I was too old.

Our life expectancy is approximately double of yours. We are seeking someone of mature age of your life rate as this will enhance the development of the offspring.

Okay, what do you want me to do?

We need to conduct some further checks first but it will not cause any pain.

Chapter 2

I was led into what appeared to be a medical theatre, removed all my clothes and lay down on a bed. An X-ray machine of some type moved up and down my body. A number of doctor type people look at the screens and spoke in a language I could not understand. After several minutes, Rybor returned and spoke to me.

You are a very suitable candidate, are you willing to continue. It is something of a process and will take seven days of your time, do you agree?

I agree.
