Maura K. Hill

Maura K. Hill was born and raised in Ireland. After working in Ireland and the UK for several years, she relocated to the United States in 1995. She began her formal education in Biblical Koine Greek and Biblical Hebrew at Phillips Theological Seminary via the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma in 1996.  A diligent student of the Biblical Languages, Maura published her first Greek-to-English Translation and Study Guide to I Thessalonians in the Fall of 1997. Since then, she published many additional, original Greek-to-English translations and comprehensive study guides for the New and Old Testaments. She has also published numerous and unique Biblical research articles on various topics. Maura continues her diligent research of the Critical Greek Texts and Papyri. The words that the only true God spoke are the best words to communicate His thoughts. It is because of mankind’s interference, mistranslations, etc, of what God spoke and/or what was written down, and because mankind has removed himself in his thinking so far away from God’s thoughts and words, that I endeavor to help all of us come-back to the integrity and truth of what God says - His Word - His thoughts - His will.

Words in a parenthesis () and italicized within a scripture verse are words inserted to help our English understanding of those words which are translated from Greek words.

Words in a parenthesis () in the study of the scripture verse are words of explanation regarding the words prior to the parenthesis.

Additional explanatory insertions within a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and italicized.

Additional explanatory notes in the study of a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and are usually in relation to the Greek or Hebrew texts.

I use an initial capital letter for all occurrences of the words Lord and Master when referring to either God or the Lord Jesus Christ due to my respect for them, therefore the reader will need to carefully consider the context of each particular usage to understand to whom that usage refers.

Where the word spirit refers to God, I use an initial capital or upper-case S - Spirit. But when the word spirit refers to the gift of holy spirit, etc, I use a small or lower-case s - spirit.

Underlined text is used for the English word but when translated from the Greek word alla to show that it implies a strong contrast to that-which has just previously been stated, and/or to strengthen a command.

Underlined text is used for the singular form of the word you to distinguish it from the plural form of the word you which is not underlined.

Underlined text is also used for emphasis.

In order to communicate the fullness of the emphasis when the Greek definite article is repeated both with the noun and its adjective - for example: I Corinthians 15:4 the Greek is te hemera te trite, which literally means the day the third – I translate it as "the day, the third (day)."

Verbs in the imperfect tense are translated with the words used-to and then the meaning of the verb.

For example: used-to teach indicates that the one teaching spent time teaching, his action of teaching continued during a past time that is now finished for some reason, not that it was a quick one-time occurrence. The one teaching taught others taking time to teach, and he may have repeated his teaching at different times and in different ways. This tense is also used to historically describe past events relating what happened.

Verbs in the perfect tense are translated from Greek with a superscript number 2 immediately following the verb - for example: it was written².

This tense indicates an action done during a past time and which has a present continuing result, meaning it is still the same at the time the verb was spoken or written. Therefore, this example could be translated as: it was written and continues written.

The noun love¹ or the verb to love¹ comes from the Greek word agape which is God’s kind of love.

When the Biblical writers wrote, there were no punctuation marks, no chapter or verse divisions indicated, etc, as we see them today in many of our English Bible translations and versions. Therefore we must read the whole context of each particular passage of Scripture for thought-content to more clearly understand the truth of what has been written.

Also, the original language was not English, and therefore when I may write that the writer said or wrote such and such, please understand that the writer actually spoke and wrote in the original language the equivalent to that-which I state in the English language to the best of my knowledge.

I recommend that while reading this book, you also have your usual Bible and Biblical study materials open, so as to compare verses and gain greater understanding of the truth of God’s Word.

Introduction to First and Second Thessalonians

The church of the Thessalonians was taught the good-message (gospel) regarding God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, by Paul together with Silas and Timothy (refer to Acts 17:1-9). It comprised mostly of Gentiles, with some Judeans, who had believed the good-message and therefore became holy-people (Christians) – children of the only true God.

These Thessalonian holy-people were examples to other holy-people in many of the surrounding areas manifesting God’s Word during the everyday living of their lives.

The letter (epistle) of I Thessalonians may have been sent from Corinth about the end of 52 A.D. or the beginning of 53 A.D. (refer to Acts 18:11). The letter of II Thessalonians may also have been written from Corinth shortly after I Thessalonians was written, as both Silas and Timothy were still with Paul.

Together, the Books of I and II Thessalonians expound the great hope of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ and provide information about what will occur during and after that time, including many truths on how to live today as we await his return from heaven.

Chapter 1

¹:1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy to the church of (the) Thessalonians in God (the) Father and (the) Lord Jesus Christ; grace to you and peace.

.2We thank God always concerning all of you making remembrance to-ourselves on our prayers .3unceasingly remembering your work of the belief, and labor of the love¹, and patient-endurance of the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, in-front-of our God and Father, .4having known², brothers having been loved¹,² by God, your selection .5because our good-message was not caused-to-become into you in word only but also in ability and in holy spirit and much full-assurance according as you knew² the-kind-of-people we were caused-to-become with you because-of you,

.6and you were caused-to-become imitators of us and of the Lord, having accepted the word, in much pressure, with joy of holy spirit, .7so-as-for you to become a type to all the (people) believing in Macedonia and in Achaia, .8for from you the word of the Lord was sounded-out² not only in Macedonia and Achaia but in every place your belief, the (belief) towards God, went-out² so-as-for us not to have a need to utter-forth something,

.9for they announce concerning us what-kind-of entrance-way we had towards you, and how you turned-back towards God from the idols to serve-as-slaves to God living and true, .10and to wait-up-for His son from the heavens whom He raised-up from dead-people – Jesus, the (one) rescuing us from the wrath, the (wrath) coming.

Chapter 2

²:1 For you yourselves knew ² , brothers, our entrance-way, the (entrance-way) towards you, that it did not become ² empty, .2 but , having suffered-beforehand and having been hurtfully-treated according as you knew ² in Philippi, we were bold in our God to utter-forth the good-message of God towards you in much contest, .3 for our encouragement (was) not from a wandering, nor from uncleanness, nor in deceit, .4 but according as we were approved ² by God to be trusted-with the good-message thus we utter-forth, not as pleasing men but (pleasing) God, the (One) proving our hearts;

.5for neither at-some-time were we caused-to-become in a word of flattery, according as you knew², nor in a pretense of covetousness, God (is) witness, .6nor seeking-after glory from men - neither from you nor from other-people;

.7being able to be in pressured-weight as apostles of Christ but we were caused-to-become gentle in your midst, as if-ever a nursing-mother may cherish the children of herself .8thus yearning-after you we used-to consider-it-good to sharingly-give to you not only the good-message of God but also the souls of ourselves for-this-reason-that you were caused-to-become loved-people¹ to us,

.9for you remember, brothers, our labor and travail, night and day working towards (the purpose of) not to pressure-weight-on someone of you, we heralded-forth the good-message of God into you.

.10You (are) witnesses, and God, as holily and righteously and blamelessly we were caused-to-become with you, the (people) believing, .11fully-as you knew² as each one of you, as a father (encourages the) children of himself, (we were) encouraging you and comforting and witnessing .12with-a-view-for you to walk worthily of God, the (One) calling you into the kingdom and glory of Himself,

.13and because-of-this we also thank God unceasingly because having received (the) word of hearing of God from us you accepted not (the) word of men but according as it truly is: (the) word of God, which also is caused-to-in-work in you, the (people) believing;

.14for you were caused-to-become imitators, brothers, of the churches of God, the (churches) being in Judea in Christ Jesus, because you suffered the same-things, even you, by (your) own tribesmen-together with (you) according as also they by the Judeans, .15the (Judeans) having killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and having persecuted us from (areas) and not pleasing God and contrary to all men, .16hindering us to utter-forth to the Gentiles in order that they may be saved, with-a-view to always fill-up their sins but the wrath went-ahead on them into completion.

.17But we, brothers, having been orphaned-away from you towards a time of an hour, by face not by heart, were more-exceedingly earnestly-diligent to see your face in much intense-yearning .18for-this-reason-that we intended to go towards you, I indeed Paul both once and twice, and satan obstructed us; .19for what (is) our hope or joy or crown of boasting? – or, you (will) also (be) in-front-of our Lord Jesus in his presence, won’t you? – (yes) – .20for you are our glory and joy;

Chapter 3

³:1 on-which-account no-longer protectively-covering (you) we considered-it-good to be left-down in Athens only .2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and worker-together with God in the good-message of Christ, with-a-view to set you fast and to encourage (you) on behalf of your belief .3 (so-as-for) not-one-person to be wheedled in these pressures, for you yourselves knew ² that we are laid into this,
