About this ebook

This is a steamy historical romance short story (word count 5,022).

Bethany Clifford has a big dilemma.

Lord Michael Clifford, her eldest cousin and guardian, wants her to consider his acquaintance Mr Howard Douglas a wealthy gentleman of society as a serious marriage prospect.

Bethany knows that Michael is right that Howard will provide her with security and protection and in due course even the possibility of a relationship based on mutual respect.

And perhaps it may have been an easy decision to agree to marry Howard understanding such benefits, had it not been for a certain handsome army officer Taylor with the most seductive green eyes whom she is having a passionate affair with, and cannot quite seem to get out of her mind!

As long as I can remember I have always loved everything and anything to do with the romance genre. Enjoying writing, reading and watching a wide range of love stories. I am a true romantic at heart! So after studying for a philosophy degree and then going on to work in a corporate job in advertising, I decided to reconnect with my passion again! I now write mainly romance short stories, with the aim to share all of my ideas with others who also have an interest in romantic fiction. I write in a range of romance subgenres including erotic romance, contemporary, sweet, paranormal/fantasy fiction and historical. I hope to continue writing as long as my ideas keep flowing out from my mind. In early 2014 I experienced my own personal love story, when I married my one true love. I now live together with my husband in London.

‘I want to apologise, Charlotte and I know now that we were wrong to stay out so late the other day, but they were in need of our help at the shelter.’

‘I did not call you here to scold you again on that matter. But don’t think I don’t know already that Charlotte put you up to it. You wouldn’t have had the confidence to do it otherwise. Bethany, you are sometimes too easy led! Anyway, I am diverting from what I wanted to say. Bethany, please sit down will you, you are making me feel uncomfortable seeing you standing there so nervous.’ Michael spoke with half bemusement but looked relieved when Bethany finally took a seat at the other side of his desk.

‘Now, I have some hopefully very happy news for you,’ Michael looked at her with a smile, making Bethany feel even more confused. Her usually reserved cousin was acting in the most peculiar way.

    ‘Please Michael what is it?’
