Chapter 1

Drizzle has a strange habit of becoming showers halfway between a front door and a mailbox. As she stepped off her front porch, Alysia Sinclair discovered this the hard way. Though she wore leather sneakers, they did little to prevent her socks from soaking in half the rainwater her front yard had to offer. Still, she pressed on – her brisk walk becoming a steady trot as she reached her destination, pulled out a stack of wet envelopes, and sprinted back to the dry confines of her doorway.

A little wet, are you? her husband Steve asked with a wry smile, looking her up and down. Alysia realized how she must look to him in her cut-off jeans and now drenched t-shirt.

But, as usual, she cut an eye-catching figure. Her shapely body and long, wavy black hair made her look like something out of a classic Italian romance film. Her big dark eyes seemed to draw people in with its mystery and allure. She was of Italian descent which was uncommon in their small Midwestern town and this only added to her exotic aura that captivated the locals. Even Steve couldn't help but be dazzled by his wife's beauty despite being married for years now.

She set the mail on the foyer table and walked seductively towards him, her rubber soles squeaking rhythmically on the hardwoods, echoing in the triple-height space.
