    Chapter One: Introduction

The Princess Bride by William Goldman was first published in 1973. It is a fantasy romance novel. The book was written and published in the same year.

It is set in the same modern time. Before the author started writing the present book, he had been writing screenplays and books for many years.

Some of the earlier works were highly successful, but The Princess Bride made the author known all over the world.

When the book was published, the science fiction and fantasy novels were already on the rise in Europe. Tolkien was one of the leading writers of the genre and J. K. Rowling was still a teenager. Harry Potter and the other books like that were the things of future.

William Goldman very carefully studied what had already been written before his novel, and then he started writing the present novel.

All the traditional elements of fantasy have been included in the book, but they are presented in a different way. There is a touch of humor and personal touch that happens to be quite non-traditional.

The Princess Bride combines the elements of fantasy, romantic love, comedy, adventure, and fairy tale. It is obviously inspired by several other preceding works. It is in fact a combination of all good parts inspired by the earlier writers.

The book was first published in the United States by Harcourt Brace and later by Random House. In the United Kingdom, the novel was published by Bloomsbury.

The novel was adapted into a motion picture of the same name in 1987 by Rob Reiner. It was later adapted into a musical as well by Adam Guettel.

According to William Goldman, he had received more response on The Princess Bride than on everything else he had done put together. He added that there is something in his novel that affects people.

Eventually, in the year 2015, a collection of essays on The Princess Bride and the film adaptation was published. It was titled The Prince Bride and Philosophy.

    Chapter Two: Plot Overview

The book opens in a Renaissance era world. There is a beautiful young woman whose name is Buttercup. She lives on a farm in the country of Florin.

Westley is a farm hand. Buttercup enjoys verbally abusing that farm hand. She calls him Farm boy. She demands that he perform several chores
