About this ebook
God has called you to fly solo — at least for now. Make the most of it.
Never-married Christians over the age of twenty-five have many unique challenges. We struggle with the way we are perceived, both inside and outside the church. We wonder if God plans for us to remain unmarried our entire lives, and if he does, how we will ever make it. And, in recent decades, we've even been caught in the courtship vs. dating crossfire.
In this 30-day devotional, the author — himself a never-married 40-something — walks you through these issues, and more, exploring what the Bible has to say, using humor, honesty, and an encouraging tone.

Preface
In 2004, I wrote a devotional book called Single Servings: 90 Devotions to Feed Your Soul and it was released the following year. A few years later, I co-wrote a singles column on CBN.com. Once that assignment ended, I thought I had said everything I had to say to singles. I mean, who wants to hear what a forty-something-year-old never-married Christian has to say about the single life, right?
The obvious answer should have been, other never-married Christians. Statistics tell us never-marrieds are a growing number in society. According to the Pew Research Center, one in five adults ages twenty-five and older (about 42 million people) has never been married. That means there are a lot of us in the same boat.
The thing about being thirty-plus and never-married is, nobody really knows what to do with us, or say to us—even in the church. Other Christians often believe we are immature, picky, carnal, indecisive, passive, unsettled, unfocused, and probably a few other adjectives I’m forgetting. And if we’re honest, any of these could be true, but just because they could be true, doesn’t mean they are.
To assume we are all that way denies the role that never-married Christians have played in the church throughout history—people like Isaac Watts, Amy Carmichael, T.S. Mooney, John Stott, and many others. And it denies the role that never-marrieds are playing in redemption right now as they live out their faith on mission (taking Jesus to their spheres of influence, wherever God has planted them).
Regardless of what the world—or even the church—is saying about us, Christ has called us to fly solo (at least for now) while representing him to a world that is otherwise without hope. To do so, we must remain close to him—so close that the whispers or criticisms pale in comparison. This book is written to encourage you along your solo journey, and maybe even challenge you a bit. I pray that you find it useful in your studies.

Singled Out
Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.
(1 Corinthians 7:17a)
During a workshop I once attended, one of the leaders asked me to share something with the group that I had written. I wasn’t comfortable in doing so because I had spent more time thinking about what I needed to write than actually writing. I always need time to process before I can create. I explained that to the workshop leader, but she pressed me further. Well, just read what you’ve got.
No, I don’t want to.
That led to momentarily awkward silence before she finally moved on. As someone
