French writer Boris Vian (1920-1959) left a legacy of very varied works: novels, poems, songs, musical comedy, theatrical adaptations of his novels, screenplays and operas. He was also a jazz musician.
His first famous novel, I Spit on Your Graves (published in 1946 under the pseudonym Vernon Sullivan) was a true bestseller, before being banned and condemned for violating public decency in 1947. In the same year he published Froth on the Daydream and Autumn in Peking. Heartsnatcher was published later in 1953.
