About this ebook
In this second volume of Dana Simpson's Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, titled, Unicorn on a Roll, the reader is invited on a journey into the lives of Phoebe and Marigold as they navigate the difficulties of grade school, celebrate the winter holidays, and explore their super hero/super villain personas together. Join in the fun, as Phoebe competes against Dakota for the leading role of “Lisa Ladybug” in their fourth-grade play—or as she struggles to “manage” the PR debacle related to her nose-picking-scandal. (“I will neither confirm nor deny the events surrounding Boogergate.”) Witness a band of unicorns staging an “intervention” and learn all the details of Marigold’s secret crush on a mysterious creature she has never seen. Perhaps most important, watch as this surprising friendship between a charming, nine-year-old dreamer and a vain, mythical beast forever changes both of them for the better.

Dana Claire Simpson grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington, drawing the entire time. She eventually graduated from The Evergreen State College, despite having spent all her time drawing, and not always for credit. From 1998 to 2008, she drew the internet comic strip Ozy and Millie. After winning the Amazon-sponsored Comic Strip Superstar Contest in 2009, Andrews McMeel Syndication signed her to a development deal for Heavenly Nostrils, which was later renamed Phoebe and Her Unicorn. She currently lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her tech genius spouse and her fairly stupid cat.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this cute graphic novel. Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils are awesome!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Recounts the further adventures of Phoebe and her unicorn friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostril.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An adorable comic strip about a girl and her snarky, prissy unicorn friend. It's easily comparable to a female "Calvin and Hobbes." Phoebe and her unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, are a hilarious duo. Strangely enough, I found myself imagining Phoebe being voiced by Tina Fey and Marigold being voiced by Amy Poehler.
Great for kids, comic fans, MLP fans (Brony or otherwise), and anyone who loves unicorns. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/569-73. The spelling bee. "Pyrrhic". Ironic. So. Much. Funny. In just four short pages. And the whole book is like that--full of jokes that will fly right over the heads of most of its targeted readership, but will make adults gigglesnort. Also, unicorns appear to be a bit like Pirates in that everything they do--magic, snark, manipulation, what-have-you--is explained simply as "Unicorn."
"Unicorns are more powerful than tater tots!"
I want volume three nownownow.
Please? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5So it's not "Calvin and Hobbes", but this strip, about a 9-year-old girl, Phoebe, and her innocently egocentric unicorn, Marigold, has a lot of charm, wit and humor, occasionally reaching the heights so frequently ascended by that great strip. Phoebe is not quite a typical young girl, smarter than most in her class, looked down on as weird by many of them, especially rich society girl Dakota, who eventually becomes kind of a "frenemy". And if there's a character in comic strips so charmingly full of herself as Marigold, I can't think of it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So cute and precious ?
I loved it so much hehe! ❤️ - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a comic book for young girls with a female character and her best friend Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, a unicorn. It is not a story but a series of short comic strips. Marigold has one characteristic and that is vanity. I do not like that aspect of this book. Phoebe on the other hand has many imperfections, and difficulties socially. She had no friends before Marigold. She has dreams and aspirations as well as moments of jealousy, even meanness, and a desire to be loved and accepted as she is. Marigold helps Phoebe to take risks, feel comfortable with her own identity, and be confident in her own awesomeness. There are a variety of events related, from problems at school, jokes, getting up to mischief, auditioning for the school play, unicorn birthday party and others. At the end, there’s a recipe for making “Sparkly, Colourful Unicorn Poop Cookies!” and finally illustrated instructions to make an origami ‘Happy Horse’ head. The illustrations are cute and I am sure children will love them. This is the second book in this series.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book more than the first one. I felt like the story line was more cohesive. This is a very sweet story and appropriate for all ages. I am looking forward to reading book 3 in the series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Just as cute and silly as the first book. A great choice to brighten up your day and make you smile.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I started in on Phoebe and Marigold a little late, as I started with book 5. But it is so lovely to go back and be able to read about their early adventures. This is book 2, and it had smiles and laughter breaking out by all who read it. Plus that are some really good christmas comics.+16 #wintergames #teamelectricsex #TBRread#BBRC fav author#GondorgirlGNchallenge

Unicorn on a Roll - Dana Simpson
INTRODUCTION
It was not long ago that if I suggested you should check out a clever, funny, sweet daily comic about a girl and her unicorn, I would have had to endure some eye rolls and serious questions about my maturity level.
But the times, they are a-changin’. Dana Simpson’s Phoebe and Her Unicorn has arrived at just the right time to perpetuate an unprecedented shift in opinion and openness to the genuine thoughts, feelings, experiences—and humor—in the lives of authentic girls.
In modern media, women and girls are finally starting to be seen as regular plain old human beings. Fifty years ago—heck, fifteen years ago—almost any depiction of a young girl would be some sort of hyperidealized version of childhood femininity. Girls in comics and cartoons were either precocious little sprites; bossy, irritating nags; or ethereal, fragile beauties, even at their tender ages. They were characters created by observers and idealizers, and because of this vantage, the audience watched them from a distance. But the characterization of Phoebe is indicative of a very recent, very new, very
