What Are the Odds? - William J Vanarthos M.D.
What are the Odds?
Are you willing to gamble with your eternity?
For the skeptic, Dr. Vanarthos brings to the discussion of who Jesus really is, the staggering - and highly compelling - mathematical evidence supporting His claim to be Messiah - God's promised savior for all men. Be careful if you choose to read it - there is little argument against the proofs he offers.
Brian P. Gilman, CLM, CPA
Dr. Vanarthos is a passionate believer and a compassionate man. He brings both traits to bear in this book by engaging the reader with a gentle conversational style, yet presenting his argument with a vigor and enthusiasm that keeps the reader engrossed. Furthermore, he knows his subject exceedingly well, and backs up every claim with multiple layers of examples. As a bonus, the reader will no doubt enjoy Dr. Vanarthos' sense of humor and originality as he presents concepts in ways that the reader may have not have heard before. This book will not only reinforce your belief; you will want to share it with others - especially those you know who are on the fence.
Philip R. Saba, MD
What are the Odds is compelling and convincing. If I weren't already a believer, I would be after reading this book! Dr. Vanarthos does a masterful job making something so complex and vast so simple. I will want to share this with every skeptic patient I see.
M. Alan Dickens, MD
It is hard to fully embrace truth
unless it has first been questioned. Dr. Vanarthos had serious doubts about Christianity. His journey from skeptic to Christ follower, based, in part, on the information contained in this book, is very compelling and will cause every reader to consider the validity of Christianity.
Rev. Dr. Todd von Helms Chaplain, St. David’s School, Raleigh, NC

About the Author
Dedication
This book is dedicated first and foremost
to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Who saw fit to open my eyes
to the truth of His Word.
It is my prayer that He will use
the content of this book to impact
the lives, and perhaps even
the eternal destinies, of its readers.
It is also dedicated to my wife, Jill,
and my daughters, Olivia and Madalyn,
for their encouragement and support
in making this dream a reality.
But what about you?
Jesus asked.
Who do you say that I am?
-Matthew 6:15
(Berean Study Bible)
Preface
Despite having attended church throughout much of my elementary and secondary school years, it was during my college education and medical training that I began to question the validity of the Bible, and entertain the notion that it was either a myth or simply a collection of outdated and irrelevant stories. It was not until I completed medical school and was in residency training that God captured my attention and changed my life.
Since then I have been studying the Bible seriously for nearly three decades and have become aware of statistical probabilities that shocked me and proved undeniable. What I discovered might surprise you, too.
How would you respond to these questions?
• What are your beliefs regarding Jesus?
- Who is He to you?
- Is He simply a good moral teacher?
- What are the chances you are wrong?
• How confident are you of what awaits you after death?
The compelling illustrations contained in this book may impact your viewpoint forever.
Introduction
Don’t you just love CliffsNotes? I do. These student study guides explain and summarize literary and other works in condensed pamphlet form or online. I think it’s so great that people on their staff took the time to read a mammoth work like Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov and summarized each chapter in about a page and a half. That’s awesome!
