An adventurous and committed man, Jack London was born in San Francisco in 1876. From 1890, his love for the open sea led him to faraway destinations (Japan, England, the American Far North, Cuba) which inspired most of his novels. His literary career really took off in 1903 with The Call of the Wild, which was immediately successful.
Alongside his literary activity, Jack London became involved in politics by joining the socialist party. He was then a war correspondent in 1904 on the Russo-Japanese frontline. Worn down by never-ending financial problems
