Tracy Chevalier is an American author who was born in Washington in 1962. After studying English at Oberlin College, Ohio, she left the United States for England, where she has lived since 1984. She firstly worked in the world of publishing before starting a course in creative writing at the University of East Anglia, during which she published her first piece of fiction, entitled The Virgin Blue (1997).
Her real breakthrough came with Girl with a Pearl Earring (1999). Since then, she has regularly published historical novels, of which the most well-known are The Lady and the Unicorn (2003) and Innocence (2007).
