Worked in a research department of a major packaging company before switching to Information Technology in 1977. Lived in Johannesburg for twenty years. Travelled extensively on business to the USA, UK and Europe. Also travelled privately to these and many other countries. Hobbies include photography, genealogy, gardening, DIY, reading, walking and writing. Lives in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Sales Lady
Harriett Reynolds was orphaned when she was very young. She was brought up in a small community by foster parents, on the slopes of the Smoky Mountains, some 50kms from a large city. She was a spirited, but an obedient and intelligent child. Her foster parents, like most of the inhabitants of the community, were poor. On her fifteenth birthday, she began looking for work, but was unsuccessful. She completed her schooling and then tried to find employment again.
The main road which passed through the small community carried on into the hills where a number of small camping sites had sprung up recently. Along the main road was a number of small shops. For as long as Harriett could remember, the general store was owned by Mr Rubin.
‘Mr Rubin, two years ago, you promised to employ me when I finished my schooling.’
