About this ebook

The Artist Mind explores biblical spirituality from the perspective of the artist as opposed to the literalist. It is an appeal to the mystic within us all.

"Metaphor is the very language of the eternal ... It's as though the realm of the eternal. and the Divine himself cannot be directly described, only compared to
something we do see and understand ... like a dimension beyond our ability to fathom ... which it is."

Right Reverend John

Right Reverend John is John Edward LaFave. The "right reverend" part is a tongue-in-cheek pen and stage name John has used at various times to various ends. Though John actually was ordained and served as worship and associate pastor with Harvest House Church in Fenton, Michigan, many, many years ago. He also founded Global Mission Alliance a small third world non-profit that did relief work in several countries in the eighties/early nineties. John has retired from "the ministry" but has a hard time burying this "Right Reverend" dude. John LaFave is a songwriter/artist/ author living in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the founder/owner of Stage Coup Records and Media. https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/JohnEdLaFave www.StageCoupRecords.com www.FaceBook.com/JohnEdLaFave John@stagecouprecords.com

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    Chapter One

    AN INTRODUCTION

There are obvious splits within the ranks of humanity. People today have been divided into diverse and splintered groups to serve a number of agendas. That being said the focus of this writing surrounds one widely observed factor contributing to an actual split in types of people. Though recognized by some studies of human behavior and the workings of the human brain, it is considered a myth by others (another split). What I'm referring to is the left brain, right brain concept. I am not a psychologist, scientist or a sociologist, but I am an observer ... something I've been most of my life. What follows is based on observation, experience and perspective. The perspective is my own.

We've all heard of the things that make for left brain, right brain perception and expression. They could be summarized like this ... those who are left-brain dominant tend toward stronger math and logic skills, while those who are right-brain dominant have talents leaning more to the creative side of things. However experts weigh in, this difference in people types is clearly observable. It even seems present in today's exploited political divide. And in answer to complaints of categorizing people too simplistically, it is understood that most are not left or right brained exclusively, we are more complex than that. But many if not most demonstrate a leaning toward one or the other. This again is observable.

For the remainder of this writing I will be referring to these two people types as the Artist or the artist minded person, and the Literalist or the literalist minded person, knowing that whether for brain-related reasons or not, these types are clearly distinguishable in today's population.

Much has been said about all of this, but it's relationship to spirituality is not often explored or discussed. And that is what I will be attempting here in the pages that follow. Based on the above premise, I will be probing into the subjects of truth, biblical spirituality, art and the overall human experience of these as I view it. This is as much a memoir of personal discovery as it is a study of human behavior. It has intrigued and captivated my imagination and interest for years, therefore I write.

    My Story ...

To start with, I have a confession to make. Here it is. No more holding it in ... I am ambidextrous. Early on, when first learning to write and draw they called me a lefty. But when playing baseball it seemed natural for me to do so right handed. When shoveling food down my throat, they called me a lefty (and the kid who could eat an awful lot and stay skinny.) But when I began playing guitar and taking lessons, right-handed was it for me. From an early age I understood this about myself, but it wasn't till much later in life that I discovered other implications of this part of who I was and am.

As time passed and life hobbled me into who I was to become I continued
