    Travis exited Shelby’s bedroom, more worried than he’d ever been in his life. Shelby’s head wound had all but healed in the last six hours, but her mind was still locked away behind a wall he couldn’t seem to penetrate. At least her body still knows it’s a shifter.

    That was one of the perks of being a shifter – the ability to heal super quick. The other benefit was superhuman strength, but unless she remembered who and what she was, that strength could be more of a curse than a blessing.

    Who’s Shelby? Those words echoed in his head and sent a cold shiver through his heart. He stepped into the living space and met the concerned eyes of Joe and the other shifters from Bear Creek, Alaska. They were a tightknit group and now that one of their own was injured, they had closed ranks.

    How is she? Joe asked, looking past Travis to the bedroom door beyond.

    Physically she seems fine. Mentally, she still doesn’t remember who she is. She doesn’t even remember her name.

    What about the other? Jules asked, a younger shifter that had grown up around Shelby and considered her like family.

    Does she remember she’s a shifter? Travis asked. When the younger man nodded, Travis slowly shook his head, I don’t think so. I’ve tried reaching her mind, and she can hear me, but it just freaks her out.

    What are you going to do? Nathaniel asked from the couch where he was cuddling his pregnant wife, Taya. She was pure human, but the evil shifter who’d been at the heart of Shelby’s accident hadn’t cared. Taya had been taken, and in the process of getting her back, Shelby had been put in harms’ way. Travis was still mentally kicking himself for that.

    He wished he had an answer. To his knowledge, nothing like this had ever happened before. Shifters were known for their ability to heal themselves, but this was more than her physical body, it was her mind. Sighing, he walked towards the large picture window to see Jacob and Zach Feller just emerging from the forest.
