Chapter 1
Marcus Lofton hated the ambiance of the bank’s cramped conference room. The faux-wood wall paneling, the faux-wood conference table, and the faux-faces on the people sitting in faux-leather chairs all offended him .
John T. Machowski would’ve walked out in a frothing, cursing, fit, he thought, remembering one of the temperamental entrepreneur’s most famous quotes: Nothing false is true.

With a satisfied sigh, Marcus strapped it on his left wrist and clicked the clasp into place. The gold-link band felt like silk against his skin. A bit heavier than expected, but it felt good. Looked good, too. Machowski had worn it for the last thirty-five years of his life. And now it was Marcus’s, as were several other of the great man’s personal items.
