David W. Gammon has been a contributing columnist, novel and film critic for horrornews.net for the past six years. He's published a number of short stories including The Evil That Men Go found in the anthology Splat from J. Ellington Press as well as Keep The Change in Morbid Metamorphosis by Lycan Valley Press. His debut full length horror novel titled House of Anguish is set for release in January 2018. On the better side of a decade ago a very special young lady had entered my life named Aida. Perhaps most notably our avenue of meeting was online. If you knew me, you’d find this especially peculiar. I’ve never been one for social media and find myself in actual real time social situations even less. We had a lot in common, love for books, cinema and music. In no time at all we developed a real affection for one another. More often than not I had taken for granted English wasn’t even her first language.
You see Aida resided on the opposite side of the globe in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I trust you see the calamity that ensues. We had often invested our time in sharing song dedications that reminded us of the other. We talked books. We recommended movies. Never shy on humor, Aida would often keep me in stitches and we fascinated the other with tales of our homeland. I often wrote her poetry, but more on that shortly. Suffice to say we’d fallen in love. We never truly took the time to make long term plans but dreamt of meeting face to face. Often as internet interaction can go awry, we drifted apart, and she simply just wasn’t there one day. I was devastated sure but forced to move on. Many a time over the years I thought of sweet Aida, I wished for her happiness and always smiled feeling she’d achieved
