About the Author
Alfred Lets Loose
Alfred knew he was truly dead when Mr. Jingles appeared and began following him around the house .
Mr. Jingles had been dead for a year, but apparently had stuck around. This was the first that Alfred had seen him since the cat passed.
Alfred had been a butler with the Eastmonts for over forty years. He’d come to them after working at expensive hotels and serving several years at other great houses. He’d been trained in the formal English style by two other English butlers, whom he’d worked under. Although Alfred himself was not English by birth, only by heredity.
The Eastmonts owned a home overlooking Puget Sound and another out on the San Juan Islands, although he didn’t have much to do with that one. At the Seattle house, he had a staff of four. Not huge, but comfortable enough. He lived a quiet life, performing his tasks and taking every Tuesday and Thursday off. Mostly, he spent his off time in the servant’s quarters, a small out building with six bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. Alfred read a lot. On sunny days he drove to a park and watched people while he walked. He always returned home, happy that he worked for the Eastmonts. They were a fine family.
Except for Raymond. He was a rotter. Now thirty, he still lived at home. When he wasn’t jet-setting around the country. He’d even despoiled his body with tattoos and silver rings, which he
