About this ebook

Mildred had no complaints; not one. Yet everyone knew what was going on but her. She wondered how so many people could see the same thing but tell a different story. The only memory she retained was the love she had for a man that she eventually begin to hate. Never in her wildest dreams would Mildred have thought that everything was all a lie. She’d been deceived, and her dignity stripped away. Her innocence and naivety about the world and those she cared about had made her an easy target. She was a victim until the end.

Antoinette M Watkins writes under the pen name Johanna Sparrow, she has been writing for over 17 years and has published a variety of books from children's books to self-help books dealing with relationship, personal growth and conflict issues. She uses her expertise, knowledge and experience on a system she's created and used over the years dating back as far as 1995 in improving relationship issues, called the (HBCCR)© Heart Bruised Conscious Connection Renewal codes which we either have or don't have inside of us. When she is not writing self help books she writes Novels and Novella under the pen name SPARROW.In 2015 Johanna Sparrow will release for the first time her powerful and inspiring HBCCR system she's created for the rest of the world in hopes that we all can find a common goal or ground within our daily connections. She has researched and studied over the years connections between human to human and human to nature interactions in which she concluded in her research how understanding ones connections and disconnections in life is the essential step code and laws for love, happiness and tragedy, governing and guiding us in becoming life's greatest or worse creation to ever exist.

    INTRODUCTION

I feel a hand touch my face occasionally, but I don’t think much of it. Not now, anyway. These days, things ain’t the same. Not for me, that’s for sure. Bein’ forced to do so much before noon makes me feel like there’s not enough time in a day. I don’t even have time to sit here yappin’ with y’all.

Strange how we all on this little planet and nobody hardly talks to each other. Funny as that is, there’s still nothin’ stranger than losin’ love or havin’ it stolen away from you ‘cause of ashy ass hands. Wishin’ this world wound end was often my prayer. Hell, I didn’t care if the whole damn world went to hell in a handbasket. What I’d lost made life hard.

But I was graceful—hard, ashy hands and all. The best dressed in the group, and even though Eileen took my man, I’ma get that bitch in due time. Trust me on that one. Sittin’ here talkin’ before bed is gonna have me pissy tired come mornin’, and you ain’t gonna be no type of friend when that happens.

What was that flicker? These eyes of mine ain’t like they used to be. I’m just tryna get some sleep. If this light would just burn out . . . until then, you have to listen to me talk shit.

    MEET MILDRED

I must’ve been a young one when I first showed up at the Samsons’ home. White marble floors so shinny you would’ve mistaken them for floors of ice. I was too scared to walk on them, thinkin’ I’d fall and bust my ass right there in front of all those strangers.

At nine years old, this was my first job. My first official job, and I had to do my best since I was the youngest in the group. Still, them damn floors had me hypnotized, until someone called my name.

Mildred, please step forward and state your name, age, and gender.

This was a joke. Everyone could see as clear as day that I was a female. The fact that I had to say I was a girl vexed the you-know-what outta me.

God, how could someone so smart be so damn blind, even with eyes in their head? is what I thought. But after lookin’ around at the other workers and seein’ that I was the youngest female of all, I realized my figure did somewhat resemble a boy. I guess I could see why someone may’ve been confused, but I sure wasn’t ‘cause I knew what I had between my legs, even if my chest didn’t tell the story.

Steppin’ forward, I stated, I’m Mildred, a girl, and I’m nine years old.

You should’ve seen how they were all lookin’ at me after that, and I don’t just mean the other workers, but the Samsons, too. I guess I was more confident than everyone expected.

Things seemed a little panicked after that, until this tall, handsome man by the name of Leonard walked in. I must’ve died and went to heaven. I could see the other workers makin’ out at him by battin’ their eyes. He was older, and I was never one for older men, but his babyface made me forget about that.

We were to wait hand and foot on all the Samsons. But at that moment, leavin’ the orphanage was startin’ to pay off. Mr. Leonard was an eye full. You know, like he belonged in a movie or somethin’. He was the nicest one of the group, and he shook all our hands, welcomin’ us to their family.

I must’ve been asked my name
